Role of a DG Synchronizing Panel in Power Management

A DG synchronizing panel is the control point that decides when a generator may join the bus and how much load it should carry. Before a breaker closes, the controller compares the incoming set’s voltage, frequency and phase angle against the live bus and permits closing only inside a narrow window, so the changeover happens without shock loading.

Once the sets are running in parallel the panel keeps working. Governor and AVR trim signals hold kW and kVAR sharing in proportion to each machine’s rating, while load-dependent start and stop logic brings sets on and off line as demand rises and falls, keeping every engine within an efficient loading band.

Protection is part of the same package. Reverse power, over and under frequency, overload, differential and earth fault relays isolate a faulty set without disturbing the rest of the bus. Bus bracing, cable entry, thermal clearances and wiring discipline are checked at every stage, and each panel is routine tested as a complete system before dispatch.

Applications of DG Synchronizing Panels Across Industries

Our DG synchronizing panels are used wherever a break in supply is unacceptable and one generator alone cannot carry the site:

  • Manufacturing and process plants
  • Data centres and IT parks
  • Hospitals and healthcare campuses
  • Commercial complexes and hotels
  • Power plants and utility installations
  • Infrastructure and construction projects

Why Choose DG Synchronizing Panels
Benefits of a DG Synchronizing Panel
01Uninterrupted supply through every load change

Generators join and leave the bus without a break in power, so production lines, servers and life-safety systems stay live through each transition.

02Balanced load sharing between generators

Active and reactive load is distributed in proportion to each set’s rating, preventing one machine from carrying the site while another runs lightly loaded.

03Lower fuel cost per unit generated

Load-dependent start and stop logic keeps only the sets you actually need in service, holding each engine in its efficient band instead of idling at light load.

04Longer engine and alternator life

Even loading and controlled starts reduce wet stacking, thermal stress and mechanical wear, stretching the interval between major overhauls.

05Selective protection and fast fault isolation

Reverse power, overload and earth fault protection trips only the affected set, so a single failure never brings the entire bus down.

06Capacity that scales with the site

Further generators can be added to the bus later without rebuilding the existing scheme, so the installation grows with your demand.

Common Questions About DG Synchronizing Panels

What is a DG synchronizing panel?
It is a control panel that lets two or more diesel generator sets run in parallel on one bus. It matches the voltage, frequency and phase angle of an incoming set to the live bus, closes the breaker at the correct instant, and then manages load sharing and protection for the whole group.
How many generators can be synchronized together?
Schemes from two sets up to eight or more are common, in both low tension and high tension configurations. The practical limit depends on the controllers, the bus rating and the switchgear, all of which are sized for your site.
How is it different from an AMF panel?
An AMF panel starts a single standby set when the mains fail and transfers load to it. A synchronizing panel goes further: it runs several sets together on one bus, shares load between them, and can return to the mains without a break where closed transition is required.
Will it work with our existing generators?
Yes. The scheme is built around the controller platform you prefer and configured for the specific engine governors and AVRs on site, so sets of different makes and ratings can be paralleled.
What maintenance does a synchronizing panel need?
An inspection every six to twelve months is recommended, covering thermal scanning of joints, torque checks on busbar and cable terminations, cleaning, relay and controller testing, and verification of the synchronizing and load sharing settings under actual load.
