How an Auto Phase Sequence Panel Works
A sequence-sensing relay measures the phase-angle relationship between the three incoming lines. When the order is correct, the panel closes the main contactor and the load runs normally. When the order is reversed, a pair of changeover contactors swaps two of the phases before power reaches the load. The correction happens in milliseconds, with no operator intervention and no re-termination at site.
The same relay also watches for conditions a sequence check alone would miss. If a phase is lost, if the voltage drifts outside the set band, or if the imbalance between phases exceeds the permitted percentage, the panel trips and locks out. It resets only after the supply has stayed healthy for the full reset delay, which prevents repeated start attempts on an unstable feed.
